Shopify officially recommends 2048 × 2048 pixels for square product images. This resolution gives full zoom capability on desktop while allowing Shopify's CDN to generate responsive smaller variants for mobile.

Uneven collection grids happen when product images have mixed aspect ratios (for example, some 1:1 square and some 4:3 or 16:9). Resizing all main photos to a uniform 1:1 square or 4:5 ratio fixes alignment instantly.

1:1 square (2048×2048px) is the most versatile standard for electronics, accessories, home goods, and multi-channel catalogs. 4:5 vertical (1638×2048px) is ideal for apparel, jewelry, and fashion stores where vertical garment length is critical.
